Renal blood flow, glomerular filtration rate, renal PAH extraction ratio, and the role of the renal vasomotor nerves in the unanesthetized rabbit.

چکیده
• The rabbit offers some advantages as an unanesthetized preparation over other species, in that it will, remain quietly, without previous training, in a small cage during a variety of experimental procedures. Previous work from this laboratory has shown that the circulation of the rabbit studied under these conditions is stable as judged by the relative constancy of the resting cardiac output, blood pressure and heart rate over a period of hours. The variability of these measurements was similar to that observed in man or the dog. However, a number of workers have considered the renal circulation of the rabbit to be less stable than that of other species," and the rabbit has not been widely used for renal circulatory studies. On the other hand, Forster, and Brod and Sirota obtained reasonable degrees of rcproducibility of renal blood flow and glomerular filtration rate in unanesthetized lightly restrained rabbits. In its response to water loading the renal circulation of the rabbit is said to resemble that of marine mammals and amphibia and to differ from that of man and the dog.' '"• "

Effect of Posthemorrhagic Anemia on the Renal Circulation of the Unanesthetized Rabbit.
• The effects of anemia on the renal circulation have been studied in a variety of preparations and species, but the results obtained have not been uniform. For example, the renal blood flow in anemia has been reported to be decreased," unchanged or increased" by different investigators. Factors which may have contributed to these contradictory results include variation in the cause and duration...
متن کاملDetermination of renal handling of marbofloxacin in Lohi sheep (Ovis aries) following a single intravenous administration
The objective of present study was to investigate renal clearance, urinary excretion and underlying excretory mechanism of marbofloxacin in Lohi sheep. For this purpose, marbofloxacin was administered intravenously (IV) as single bolus dose (2.5 mg/kg body weight) to eight healthy sheep of Lohi breed. After start of experiment, blood and urine samples were drawn at predetermined time intervals ...
متن کاملEffect of experimental neurogenic hypertension on renal blood flow and glomerular filtration rates in intact denervated kidneys of unanesthetized rabbits with adrenal glands demedullated.
This study was undertaken to examine responses made by the renal circulation to increases in systemic blood pressure in unanesthetized animals. The kidneys were denervated and the adrenal glands demedullated to avoid such nervous or hormonal effects as might be reflexly induced by the procedure employed in neurogenically obtaining pressure increases via severing the depressor nerves and clampin...
متن کاملEffect of acute intravenous administration of isoproterenol on cardiorenal hemodynamics in man.
By the direct Fick, or the indocyanine-green or both, methods and by renal clearance of inulin and para-aminohippurate (PAH), simultaneous cardiorenal hemodynamic observations were made before and during isoproterenol infusion (0.9-2.6 micrograms/min) into three patients without, and 10 patients with, heart disease. Although a consistent increase in cardiac output (11 to 147%) was noted in all ...
متن کاملEffect of hypoxia and hypercapnic acidosis on renal autoregulation in the dog: role of renal nerves.
Previous studies suggest that hypoxia and hypercapnic acidosis exert a renal nerve mediated adverse effect on renal haemodynamic function. We therefore examined the effect of hypoxia and hypercapnic acidosis on renal blood flow and glomerular filtration rate responses to lowering renal perfusion pressure from 125 to 75 mmHg in the anaesthetized dog. To study the role of renal nerves in these re...
